Computer Components

To provide students with the insights necessary to identify the basic components , and function of those components, of a modern digital computer

The students will be able to:ASCII Chart

  1. Identify Input, Process and Output as the three basic steps used by a computer to process information.
  2. Characterize the function of an input device.
  3. List the names of 3 different input devices
  4. Explain that the two components of a computers ability to process information lies in it’s CPU chip and memory.
  5. Identify the two types of computer memory as ROM and RAM
  6. Identify the basic gradient of memory measurement is a BYTE
  7. Identify digital information as a Binary Code consisting of a series of 0's and 1's
  8. Explain that the processing of data takes place in the CPU chip
  9. Explain that the speed of a CPU determines the over all processing speed of a computer.
  10. Characterize the function of an output device.
  11. List the names of 3 different output devices
  12. List 5 devices that can be used as both input and output devices
  13. Identify the operating system as software that coordinates the operation of all devices connected to the computer
  14. Explain that most peripheral devices connected to a personal computer use the USB connection standard.
