Computer
Components
To provide students with the insights necessary to identify the basic components , and function of those components, of a modern digital computer
The students will
be able to:
- Identify Input,
Process and Output as the three basic steps used by a computer to process
information.
- Characterize the
function of an input device.
- List the names
of 3 different input devices
- Explain that the
two components of a computers ability to process information lies in
its CPU chip and memory.
- Identify the two
types of computer memory as ROM and RAM
- Identify the basic
gradient of memory measurement is a BYTE
- Identify digital
information as a Binary Code consisting of a series of 0's and 1's
- Explain that the
processing of data takes place in the CPU chip
- Explain that the
speed of a CPU determines the over all processing speed of a computer.
- Characterize the
function of an output device.
- List the names
of 3 different output devices
- List 5 devices
that can be used as both input and output devices
- Identify the operating
system as software that coordinates the operation of all devices connected
to the computer
- Explain that most
peripheral devices connected to a personal computer use the USB connection
standard.
