For the devices below, indicate in the space to the right if that device is an Input, Output, Input / Output Device or Processing device.
Ink Jet Printer This printer works by shooting small dots of colored ink on the paper to form an image

Laser Printer Uses the same technology as a Xerox copier

Microphone Used to change sound signals into digital signals

Digital Camera Used for capturing still images electronically

RAM Random Access Memory - This is the part of the computers memory that is used to operate software and provides storage space for documents you are currently working on. This memory space is only TEMPORARY
Monitor This changes electronic data into visual images

Mouse Used as a desktop pointing device

Modem This device is either built-in or connected to your computer with a cord. It enables your computer to send and receive data over telephone lines. cable lines or a wireless connection.

CD Rom This device is used to store data from the computer. The computer can also retrieve data from this device. Data can be stored on this very quickly and has a storage capacity of up to 620 megabytes.

ROM Read Only Memory. This is the computer’s permanent memory. This contains instructions that provide the computer with basic capabilities.
Speakers They change electronic impulses into sound impulses.

Robotic Arm Device used to change electronic signals into mechanical movements.

Floppy Disk
This device is used to store data from the computer. The computer can also retrieve data from this device. Older technology, slow, unreliable with limited storage capacity, about 1.4 megabytes.

Joystick / Controller Used for controlling game software.

Hard Drive This device is built into your computer. It can store data and data can be retrieved from it at very high speeds. Most importantly, it holds the software, the operating system, that enables your computer to understand what you want it to do. When you buy a new piece of software, and "install" the software, the hard drive is the place the software is stored until you want to use it. It's storage capacities can range from 20 gigabytes to 400 gigabytes.
CPU
