Computers
To provide students with the insights necessary to understand the historical sequence of the development of the digital computer.
The students will
be able to:
- Identify which
device is considered the first calculating device.
- Explain that Charles
Babbages Analitical engine was unique in that it was the first calculating
machine that stored information and followed programs
- Identify IBM as
the Company that made the first electric counting machine?
- Recognize that
the development of the digital computer was impacted by the develpoment
of new technologies.
- Identify the Vaccum
Tube as the key technology that enabled the The First Generation of
computers.
- List two problems
inherant in the use of vaccum tubes in the construction of a digital
computer.
- Identify the Transistor
as the key technology that enabled the The Second Generation of computers.
- Identify the Integrated
Circuit Chip as the key technology that enabled the The Third Generation
of computers.
- Identify that integrated
circuit chips are made from silicon.
- Hypothesize how
computers might work 20 years from today.
- Explain that a
timeline is used to show the relationship between events over a specific
time period.
- Using a drawing
of a rendition of a computer chip, operate the basic functions of electronic
drawing software, so as to electronicly redraw what is seen on the orgiginal
drawing.
