Introduction to the Internet

To provide students with the insights necessary to understand the basic structure of the internet. Additionally, students will be able to effectively find , and constructively use, information from the internet.

The Student will be able to:

  1. Explain that the Internet is made up of many interconnected computer networks.
  2. List the names of 4 of the eight sections of the internet.
  3. List the five resources necessary to access the internet
  4. Define E-Mail as Electronic Mail – a message sent over the internet
  5. List the two parts of every email address
  6. Explain that an e-mail attachment is a document or graphic sent with an e-mail message
  7. Explain that the World Wide Web is the multi media section of the internet
  8. Explain that hypertext is used for navigation on the WWW
  9. Differentiate between the terms Website and Webpage
  10. Explain that the software necessary to access the world wide web is called a web browser.
  11. List three of the most commonly used web browsers
  12. Define the term software
  13. List four website domain extensions
  14. Differenciate between the operational capabilities of internet directories, key word search engines and Meta search engines
