Search
Engines
In order to find documents on the WWW, you need to use a search engine.
There are three different types of search engines: Directories, Key Word
and Meta.
Directories:
Directories are used to find general information using general subject
headings. If a perason is not quite sure what they are looking for, this
type of search engines help them walk thru their search.
Example:
Open Directory Project: www.DMOZ.org
Key Word Search Engines:
Search engines are good when you know the exact words or phrases necessary
to find the information your looking for.
Examples:
AltaVista http://www.altavista.com
Google http://www.google.com
Go.com http://www.go.com
Excite http://www.excite.com
Meta-Search engines:
A meta-search engine uses indexs of other search engines to help you find
"hard to find" information
Ask Jeeves http://www.askjeeves.com
DogPile http://www.dogpile.com
Meta Crawler http://www.metacrawler.com
